The Valencia County Commission passed a Fireworks Ban for the Unincorporated Areas of Valencia County at last nights Commission meeting, at the request of the Fire Chief.
This ban prohibits the sale or use of aerial fireworks (bottle rockets, Roman candles, missle type rockets, etc).
“Safe and sane” fireworks are still permitted as long as they are used on paved surfaces with a water supply immediately available.
So….what are “safe and sane” fireworks? Think of fireworks you could buy at Walmart (the store, not the guy in the van outside). Prepackaged fireworks from a store typically fit the description. Fountains, sparklers, etc.
Valencia County is past severe drought, and is in to Exceptional Drought, which is the worst level. A firework that lands in grass, cotton, wood piles or any other combustible material WILL start a fire that will grow quickly.
Please be safe!!
