Title: Development Services Assistant
Department: Development Services
Supervised Received: Development Services Director
Hourly Wage: $12.14 per hour plus 90% paid medical benefits
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks in Development Services Department which encompasses the following operations: Construction Projects, Engineering, Planning and Zoning, Economic Development, Planning and Zoning, Zoning Ordinance enforcement and New Mexico Film Office Liaison. Research and maintain records referencing engineering, construction, planning, zoning and economic development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Follows all personnel policies and procedures as set forth by the City of Belen
• Attends, and assists in administering all Planning and Zoning Commission meetings; including, posting notices, preparing agendas and packets, recording and transcribing all proceedings and overseeing Commission meetings in the absence of the Development Services or Planning Director.
• Assists in the generation of statistical and informational reports as necessary.
• Assists customers with requests and inquires referencing planning, zoning and economic development.
• Assists in the reviews of and coordinates approvals of housing and land development plans, applications and other requests.
• Prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda, notices, flyers, brochures, media releases and reports relating to Development Services.
• Assists in construction project state and federal progress reporting, reimbursement requests, Notice of Obligation preparation and invoice processing.
• Assists in hearing preparations and presentations to the Commission, Council and the public.
• Assists in drafting, amending, implementing and enforcing the Zoning Ordinances as necessary.
• Maintains and manages necessary records for Development Services.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Two (2) years of experience as a public Administrative Assistant and in public relations.
• Must be knowledgeable of applications and processes involved in urban planning, geography, zoning ordinances, land use, civil engineering and construction.
• Knowledge of city government.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public
• Knowledge of office equipment, materials and supplies and applicable safety precautions
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand various plans, blue prints, and other technical records.
• Bilingual preferred, but not required.
