Liquor store owners in the state are expressing feelings of unfairness after they were forced to close under Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's extended stay-at-home order issued last month.

Under the order, grocery stores and big-box stores selling alcohol are permitted to stay open. The order does not influence the sale of alcohol.

"Why me? Why not let me stay in business and compete with them," Connie Nellos, owner of Quarters Discount Liquor, told KRQE. "They’re giving the big people an uncompetitive advantage over me and I don’t like it.”

His said his business could convert to a walk-up service in order to comply with the order, like restaurants.

The governor issued a statement that said these closures were a measure taken in order to limit the amount of unnecessary travel. The full list of essential businesses as well as contact information available is available on the governor's website, where the official statement is published.
