The New Mexico Republican Party highlighted the candidacy of Ryan Alexandra Chavez for state Senator on its Facebook site recently.
Chavez has announced she is running for the seat in District 18 currently held by Bill Tallman.
Chavez, a native of New Mexico, has worked in the governor’s office as a political analyst. In her statement, she highlighted her ability to work with the private sector, spotlighting partnerships with the oil and gas industry. She also noted her work with non-profits.
Chavez said the political disfunction in Santa Fe has encouraged her to run for public office.
“Our students can thrive, our economy can soar, and our communities can be safe and bright – but not with the same old ideas and worn our approaches,” she wrote.
Tallman, a Democrat, is currently serving his first term.
The New Mexico Primary Election is currently scheduled for June 2 with the General Election slated to take place Nov. 3.
