Thanks to an anonymous tip, a successful investigation was concluded tonight with six juveniles facing charges in connection with the stolen flags at the memorial park as well as several other criminal offenses. Due to the fact that the suspects are juveniles their names will not be added to this post.
In addition, I am happy to announce that the two flags stolen from the Memorial were recovered and will be returned to the care of the Veterans Memorial.
Greetings City of Belen,
On Monday of this past week we celebrated the memory of the men and women who gave their all so that we may enjoy the freedoms we all have.
On Friday morning around 2:30 AM, less than week after honoring our brave men and woman’s sacrifice. A group of what appear to be young adults, jumped the wall of the secured Veterans Memorial and stole several of the Flags.
This type of dishonorable act is not just a property crime and does not effect just a single person, family or business, but an entire community. The Mothers and Fathers, Wives, Husbands and Children, Brothers and sisters and all of other thousands of loved ones, left with only memories.
The Veterans Memorial, is a sacred place of honor. A place that should be celebrated and respected for the all that it represents.
The Belen Police Department is seeking any information on this criminal act.
Mayor Robert Noblin is offering a $250.00 dollar reward for any information leading to the recovery of the Memorial Flags and the arrest of the individuals responsible for the act of vandalism. In addition I am offering an additional $100.00 dollar reward.
If you have any information, please contact the Belen Police Department at 505-966-2680 or Instant message the Belen Police Department Facebook Messenger. All tips will be followed up on and all will be considered anonymous.
As always thank you for your support.
