Socorro Wellness & Rehabilitation received an overall rating of 4 out of 5 for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This exceeds the New Mexico average rating for nursing homes, which stood at 2.9.
The facility operated with 66 available beds—35 fewer than the state’s average during the first quarter of 2026. On average, 57.6 residents were served over that time frame.
In Q1 2026, Socorro Wellness & Rehabilitation recorded zero fines or penalties.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the country’s older population is rising while the number of younger Americans is shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, those age 65 and older increased by 13%, as the under-18 group declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population has surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to above 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans in this age segment—approximately 28 million people—could need long-term services and support, with projections indicating over one-third may eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
