A single vehicle crash on N.M. 47 last night is being investigated by the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office as a homicide.

Deputies were called out to the crash at about 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21. The vehicle had crashed through a resident’s fence and into a tree near Oakhurst in Adelino.

VCSO public information officer Lt. Joseph Rowland said the man driving the vehicle was found dead at the scene by deputies and due to the nature of the death, the case is being investigated as a homicide.

The scene was processed overnight by the sheriff’s office and the New Mexico State Police. The Office of the Medical Investigator transported the man to its facility for further investigation.

“Release of the identity of the decedent is pending next of kin notification,” Rowland said.
