At approximately 1700 (5 P.M.), the City of Moriarty Fire Department and Torrance County Fire Department responded to a reported RV Fire at the 216 Mile Marker I-40 West Bound.
First arriving units reported a fully involved RV Fire with a grass fire that began to run to the North East.
At the time of the fire, Clines Corners Travel Center was evacuated and Highway 285 northbound was shut down. Both are now back open.
The grass fire which has since been named “The RV Fire” was contained at 538 acres.

Torrance County Emergency Management
New Mexico State Forestry
Bureau of Land Management
United States Forest Service
Torrance County Sheriff’s Office
New Mexico State Police
New Mexico Department of Transportation
Several out of state crews from California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Texas and Washington are currently in New Mexico assisting New Mexico Firefighters due to our extreme Fire Weather. The City of Moriarty Fire Department would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to those agencies and crews.
No injuries to Firefighters, Law Enforcement or Civilians were reported. No buildings or structures were lost during this fire.
