SCAM ALERT: The Belen Police Department received information from local businesses that were victims of fraud, larceny or embezzlement.

Local businesses are receiving phone calls from unknown individuals who claim to be from the corporate office or another entity claiming the business needs to pay for shipments.

Employees from these local businesses are believing these lies and taking thousands of dollars from the safe and depositing the money into bitcoin ATM machines.

As the investigating detective of these cases, Detective Joe Rodriguez is hoping to make the public and the business community aware of this fraudulent scheme.

If your business gets a phone call from individuals claiming they need money that needs to be deposited to a Bitcoin machine, notify the Belen Police Department (505-966-2698) immediately.

These cases are being investigated thoroughly, some of these cases have been committed internationally and the New Mexico Attorney General’s office has been made aware of those cases.

Other cases have still not been proven to be domestically, internationally or locally committed. These cases are still under active investigation by the Belen Police Department.
