2016, Miss you my friend.
A good friend of mine James White that I worked with at the shelter, passed away at 4:30am this morning. Most of you probably don’t know this but I got involved in the shelter because of him.
I went in to adopt a dog in 2007 that I saw in the local paper. After just a few minutes of talking to James, realizing the reality of the shelter and how hard he worked to make it a better place for the animals, I started volunteering almost everyday and got hired as a Kennel Tech in 2009. We worked together cleaning kennels and taking care of the dogs.
We got to be good friends and planned off-site adoption events every weekend. It was a lot of fun and adopted a ton of animals that would have never made it out.
He was a hard worker that truly cared about the animals and had big dreams for that place. He would text me all the time after work with ideas he had and always asking what he could do to make things better because he felt as if he wasn’t doing enough already. I will definitely miss those text from him and parts of our conversations that now have more meaning.
I know he would laugh at me for saying this and believe me, I reminded him often!! Lol He might have been a total pain sometimes because of how stubborn he would be over the stupidest things but you could tell him that and laugh about it later.
He was so funny with things and you couldn’t do much other than listen and wait to see what happened, if he told you that ten “dogs” we’re coming in, almost every time it would be (one) dog with 9 young puppies so instead of scrambling to open up 10 kennels we would only need one or two. I’m pretty sure it was just his way of keeping himself entertained in the event we actually had a slow day at the shelter
I’ve always believed that things happen for a reason but I will never understand how so many good people that truly care about making this world a better place aren’t able to stay longer. God must have needed a little more help with his animals up there that were not able to be saved here
He was a good person with a great sense of humor and always there to help you. He never asked for much, just wanted to save the animals enjoy the simple things in life.
I’m really sorry to Robert,Jeanette and the boys that I wasn’t able to be there last night to say goodbye.
This is a huge loss for all of us at the shelter especially just when we thought things were getting better
